Cleopatra, Queen OF EGYPT - Tina Turner as Cleopatra
12 Line ips with a light flesh lip pencil and fill in.
13 With a lip brush, cover with a dark coral red creme lip color.
14 Top off with a coat of clear gold lip gloss.
This is a texture look, because of the use of shimmery golds, and an eye and brow shape face, too. (As if that isn't obvious!)
Cleopatra may be the most famed female ruler of all time, but her reign over fertile Nile-quenched valleys and desert landscapes was far from idyllic. From her initial ascent to power at age eighteen to her dramatic death (by self-induced snakebite). Cleopatra's twenty-year rule was rife with conflict and tragedy.
This Nubian royal held potent sway over her subjects—she was said to be highly intelligent and charismatic, spoke several languages, and was considered quite the fashion plate. The attraction was not lost on two of the most important men of the day, Julius Caesar and Marc Anthony, with whom she had scandalous long-term affairs.
Today, if there is a woman who has that same power over people, it is Tina Turner. Photographer Steven Meisel first introduced me to the "Queen of Rock 'n' Roll" in 1983, when he was shooting the now famous Rolling Stone cover of her jumping in the air. It was I he beginning of Tina's comeback—and an education in life for me. She has become like a second mother—never criticizing, always supportive, and full of endless humor, strength, and love.
I was traveling with her on a ten-daylong publicity four recently, when this shoot was planned. Tina graciously managed to spare me an hour in her hectic schedule. She arrived at the hotel, and despite the pressure, was enthusiastic and calm. Working quickly, I created the brows, lips, and signature Cleopatra eyes. Once the makeup was finished, Tina donned her strapless gown and jewels, and we went info the next room to shoot two rolls of film, before she was off to her next appointment. When the contact sheets came back from the lab, my assistants were amazed. They had been so mesmerized by "Cleopatra" that they forgot it was really Tina underneath. But, having worked with Ibis wonderful woman for so many years, I was used to her performing miracles.
